I’m Kristy, the artisan behind Bush and Bay Toys.
I’m a wife to a spunky man and a mum to two handsome little fellas. We’re a nature loving family at heart who love the outdoors. We camp, we fish, we 4WD, we motorbike, we explore....and we’re lucky enough to live close to both bush and beach – hence the business name!
I’m an early childhood teacher who has worked within the industry in various capacities for a little over a decade. I loved a lot of things about teaching and especially enjoyed providing beautiful play spaces and experiences for children each day. But like a lot of other businesses, the budget was always limited and I could only drool over those beautiful wooden resources in the glossy educational magazines.
I knew I could make most of them myself, but time was always limited too (You can see where this is heading, can’t you?)…
I found myself thinking, just do it! Make them and sell them to people just like me. People who want beautiful natural things, at reasonable prices. So I got comfortable with being uncomfortable and launched into this new little adventure.
Photography is another pretty big interest of mine and I enjoy taking all of my own product photos, almost as much as I enjoy making them! I have no formal credentials of course. I’m completely self-taught and just enjoy experimenting.
Same goes for my wood work! I’m completely self-taught. I don’t use fancy machinery. I work with simple tools in my humble little work station at home. When you purchase from Bush and Bay Toys you’re getting handmade products that are beautifully rustic, sustainable and affordable.
